Renting a dumpster comes down to five decisions: the size, the spot on your property, the delivery day, what goes in, and what you'll pay if you go over. Get those five right and the rest is a phone call and a truck. A first booking goes like this, start to finish, for anyone in Butler, Hamilton, Warren or Clermont County.
How do you rent a dumpster for the first time?
It's shorter than most people expect. You pick a size, tell us where it's going, pick a day, and load it. We pick it up when you're done. Take them in the order you'll actually go through them.
- Pick the size. We run two: 15-yard and 20-yard. Nothing else, so you're choosing between two, not six.
- Decide where it sits. Driveway, yard or beside the garage. Measure the flat space and check for low branches and wires overhead.
- Pick a delivery day. We deliver 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week, Sundays included.
- Tell us what's going in. Say it on the phone before you load. Some materials change the weight, and weight is where the bill grows.
- Load it inside the rental window. A standard rental is 7 days.
- Call for pickup. When it's full or you're done, you call and we haul it.
What size dumpster do you need?
Start with the weight, not the pile. A 15-yard includes 3,000 lb. A 20-yard includes 4,000 lb. If you're hauling bulky, light stuff like old furniture, cardboard or a few rooms of clutter, the 15-yard holds a lot more than you think. If you're tearing out a deck, a kitchen or carpet and trim from a whole floor, the extra yard is worth it.
Here's the rule we give people on the phone. When you can't decide, ask what's heavier than it looks. Shingles, tile, plaster and dirt eat weight fast. Furniture and boxes eat space fast. The visual guide to roll-off dumpster sizes shows what each one holds, and it'll get you most of the way there.
- 15-yard: 3,000 lb included. Garage cleanouts, a bathroom remodel, a yard project, a single-room tear-out.
- 20-yard: 4,000 lb included. A full basement, a deck, a multi-room remodel, heavier demolition.
Not sure which one fits your job? Tell Jason what you're tearing out. He answers the phone himself and he'll tell you which size fits before you book anything.
How much does a dumpster rental cost near you?
We can give you three numbers without a quote form. The 15-yard weekend special is $300 for 1 to 3 days. A standard rental runs 7 days. Overage is a flat 4 cents per pound, not per ton.
That last one matters. Per-pound is easy to do in your head. If you go 500 lb over your included weight, that's $20. Some companies bill by the ton and round up, and that's where surprise charges come from. For the full breakdown, read what dumpster rental costs in Cincinnati.
Pricing beyond the weekend special depends on size and your address, so ask when you call. Also ask about deposit and payment terms. We're not going to guess at those in a blog post, and you shouldn't book with anyone who won't tell you before you commit.
Where does the dumpster go, and will it damage your driveway?
This is the worry we hear most. A loaded roll-off weighs a lot, and it slides onto your pavement on steel rails. Bare steel on asphalt or concrete is how people end up with gouges.
So we put wood blocks under the rails on every delivery. Every one, no exceptions on small jobs. You can read more on how we set one in our driveway-safe dumpster rental setup.
A few things you can do to help on delivery day:
- Pull your cars out of the driveway and the street in front of it.
- Move trash cans, basketball hoops and planters out of the way.
- Look up. The truck tips the bed, so low wires and tree limbs matter.
- Pick the spot closest to where you'll be loading. Fewer steps with a wheelbarrow means less time and less strain.
If you want the dumpster on the street instead of your driveway, check with your city first. Every city handles that differently, from Fairfield to Hamilton to West Chester. Tell us the address and we'll help you work out the placement.
When should you book, and how long do you keep it?
How far ahead to book is something to ask when you call. We won't promise a lead time here, because it changes with the season and how many trucks are already out. What we can say is that you shouldn't wait until the day before your project if you've got a fixed deadline, like a closing date or a family visit.
The standard rental is 7 days. If your project runs longer, say so up front. Don't wait until day 7 to find out. Our $300 weekend special is the other option: a 15-yard for 1 to 3 days, for the Saturday garage purge and nothing else.
Ask about cancellation and changes when you book too. We're not going to state terms here that you'd need to hear from Jason directly.
What can go in the dumpster, and what can't?
We're not going to hand you a half-remembered list here. What you can and can't load is something to ask when you call, before you start loading. Tell Jason what you've got. Appliances, tires, paint, mattresses, concrete and roofing can each come with different rules, and it's cheaper to ask than to guess.
The quick version of loading well:
- Break down boxes and furniture so the dumpster holds more.
- Put heavy items on the bottom and spread them out.
- Keep everything below the top edge of the walls.
- Don't load until you've told us what's going in.
What do first-timers get wrong?
Most of the trouble comes from three things. People book a size by looking at the pile instead of thinking about the weight. They don't tell us what's going in. And they forget a 7-day clock is running while they sort through a basement.
Know your weight, your spot and your dates before you call, and the booking takes five minutes.
Common questions before you rent
How much are dumpster rentals near me?
For us, a 15-yard for 1 to 3 days is $300 on the weekend special. Standard rentals run 7 days, with 3,000 lb included on the 15-yard and 4,000 lb on the 20-yard. Overage is 4 cents per pound. For anything past that, ask when you call, because it depends on size and address.
What size dumpster do I need?
We only run 15-yard and 20-yard, so it's one question. Is your project heavy or bulky? Heavy, like roofing, tile or a deck, usually goes to the 20-yard. Bulky and light, like cleanouts, usually fits the 15-yard. When you're torn, call and describe the job.
Do I need to be home for delivery?
Often you don't, as long as the spot is clear and the driver knows exactly where it goes. If you want to walk it with us, pick a time when you'll be there. Confirm it when you book.
When to call a pro instead of guessing
You can book a dumpster the same afternoon you decide to clean out the garage. But call and talk to a person when any of these is true:
- You're hauling heavy debris like shingles, tile, brick, dirt or concrete, and the weight could run past your included pounds.
- You don't know what's allowed in the dumpster and you've got appliances, paint or other odd items.
- Your driveway is tight, sloped or lined with trees and wires, and you want a spot picked before the truck shows up.
- You're on a deadline, like a closing or a move-out.
- You need the dumpster for a weekend, or you want Sunday delivery.
That's a five-minute call. Jason owns On-Site Dumpster Solutions, a Butler County company with 5.0 stars from 26 Google reviews, and he answers the phone himself from 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week. No call center, no hold music.
Call Jason at 513-484-2414. Tell him the address, the size you're leaning toward and what's going in, and he'll tell you what fits and what to ask before the truck rolls.
